Fall Trip 2009 Part 2 Whitehorse Basin Cutthroat

Date:
September 14, 2009
Notes:

We had made reservations to camp and fish on the Whitehorse Ranch over the internet weeks ago. When we showed up at the ranch the only person around was a ranch hand. We explained we wanted to fish Whitehorse ck. and he was more than happy to have us follow him and his beat up pickup truck a few miles up the road to a place where we could park the camper for the night. He pointed further up the road and explained the creek neared the road a little ways away. As soon as he left we continued in the direction he said and soon found the creek following the valley floor. After pulling over and setting up our rods we started working upstream and were soon into fish. We fished for a few hours and caught several fine samples of the Whitehorse Basin Cutthroat. We returned to the camper and decided to fish the section downstream. The water looked just as good but neither one of us could hook or even spook a fish for that matter. For some reason all the fish were upstream of the spot we just happened to start at and none were to be found downstream. Luck was on our side that day.

That is one heck of a nice cutthroat that you got out of Whitehorse Crk.  I hooked one similar to that size in Willow, but it seemed like the size of the average trout was much smaller there.  I have to say that I love that area!
