Fall Trip 2009 Part 1 ______ Cutthroat

Date:
September 13, 2009
Notes:

Could someone please turn on the tap? I had never actually fished a ditch before _____ Creek so  was at a loss when it came to tactics and strategies. On top of that when we showed up at the creek there was 3 other fisherman working the water. Are you guys crazy don't you know the _____ Cutthroat is extinct? Now that I have got all the excuses out of the way I will say that if I was to go there again with the experience I gained later in the trip fishing desert creeks I likely would have been succesful. What I did was look for water that was free of grass, weeds and surrounding trees where I could cast and get the best, if not short, drag free drift as possibe. What I should have done was tie 5' of leader directly to the tip of a reeless fly rod, crawled on my hands and knees to within a rod length of the creek and dapped a copper john through the foliage and twitched it up and down ever so slightly.

Note. There has been some discussion recently about telling the where abouts of a possible remaining stock of once thought extinct fish. I have decided to remove all mention of the species and where I fished for it.

That creek was sure low in August of 2008 when I was there as well.  I do find the amount of pressure that it is getting a little disturbing if you saw three other guys there.  It seemed to me that the population size for the Alvord type fish was rather small and I don't know how much pressure they can really handle with there not being in C&R regulations...
