Coastal Rainbow Trout
The real question is where you can't find them. Coastal rainbows are the backbone of the hatchery system in the United States. They've been introduced into every state and to every continent except Antarctica.
Even if you want to catch a wild version in its native habitat, you shouldn't have a problem. Stream resident coastal rainbows live in waters from Los Angeles to southern Alaska. And while some steelhead runs have been decimated by the same litany of factors that have destroyed so many salmon populations, they can usually still be found in classic rivers like the Umpqua, the Klamath, the Columbia, the Fraser, and many, many, more.
There may be more information on these fish in the forums, trip reports, and other posts. Click here.
