SAVE THE PAIUTE!!

gigharborflyfisher's picture

There is an open public comment period to the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed restoration of Paiute cutthroat into Silver King Creek below Llewellyn Falls till May 10th 2010.  I strongly recommend that everyone write in support of this as this will be the LAST chance to get our voices heard before the final decision comes down!  Fellow bloggers I hope that you will put this up.

Thanks for putting this up Gary.

Also done...

...plus I included a short and simple, cut and pasteable version here that I cobbled together from Gary's post and my own verbage. Cut, paste, print and mail. How much easier can it be? Let's have more "done" posts, eh?

Mr. Williams-

I would like to write you on behalf of the Paiute Cutthroat trout in Silver King Creek.

The Paiute cutthroat is one of the rarest and most beautiful trout in the world and needs our support, as well as yours. I would like to strongly encourage you and your colleagues to support the plan to reintroduce these fish below Llewellyn Falls and Option # 2 in the EIS seems to be best method to reintroduce and protect these wonderful fish for future generations.

Thank you for your time and attention in this matter.

Regards,

Another one done.

A new lawsuit

Dave B's picture

It looks like the same group that sued to stop the Silver King rehabilitation has sued again:

SACRAMENTO (CN) - There environmental groups say the federal government's plan to poison a wild creek to kill nonnative, stocked trout in Northern California is ecologically "unacceptable." Californians for Alternatives to Toxics sued the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service over its plan to poison Silver King Creek in the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness.

I'm getting real hot!!!!!

God damn special interest groups are putting an endangered species on the brink.  Read Behnke's story on rotenone treatments in the Paiute chapter of "About Trout".  He warns of scenarios like this back in 2004.  Got to fight these idiots any way you can.

It doesn't surprise me...

I figured that these folks, which stopped it back in 2004 (5?), would be back again this time. The only good thing that I can see in this is that they're objecting NOW and not at the 11th hour, like they did last time, costing CA F&G tens of thousands of dollars, since F&G had everyone and everything in place to do the treatment last time. It looks like the lawyers are the big winners... again.

I was wondering if they would

gigharborflyfisher's picture

I was wondering if they would pull this off again.  I see that they waited until the USFWS approved the project (that's a major victory at least).  I don't think that their odds of stopping it will be very high this time, not with the Environmental Impact Statement and the Feds involved at least.  Especially since the EIS shows scientific fact and refutes their baseless accusations.  If the idiots wanted to stop it so badly they should have rallied support for their cause with hard proof and done used the comment period like everyone else.  Their just wasting the tax payer's money with all of this crap and while the lawyers line their pockets.
