Paiute Trout Can't Catch a Break....
The Silver King project has been delayed for another year over budget issues:

I don't think this is particularly good news as it will give the opposition a lot more time to potentially challenge the project (again). One would think that with so much support from anglers, TU and Caltrout etc. that a public-private partnership may have been able to bridge the funding gap...

State is Broke
And special interest groups have $$$$. Not good. I think Dr. Behnke predicted this. It will be a miracle if Paiutes survive the next 20 years. We've pretty much assured the doom of pure strain Golden Trout. What next? No amount of money can bring back an extinct species. You can grab species from a different drainage and reintroduce, but the unique genetics of a particular strain of Native Trout endemic to a specific waterway is special, and of course as we all know, extremely fragile in this day and age. TU and CalTrout represent more fishing interests than fish interests, at least that has been my experience when working with both, so no surprise there as they figure this one is not worth the effort. Thanks Dave
