New guy here

Just wanted to post a hello to everyone from the deep south (although it really doesn't feel like it with temps in the low 30's). I am very interested in pursuing native salmonids however my location prohibits me from regularly taking part in the practice. Being in south Louisiana puts me at least 600 miles from any native salmonids. The closest is the brook trout, the only native species I've accomplished on my life list. A few times each year I get to fish for them in their southernmost range while visiting my parents in Georgia on rhodedendron choked streams no sane person would want to fly fish. Because of the distance between native salmonids and myself I regularly fish for bass on the many streams in my area, whether on foot or from my kayak. I've made it somewhat of a personal quest to find and fish all the wadeable water in the state and have been rewarded with some great finds. I'm really glad to have found this site so that I can live vicariously through all of your salmonid reports and hope I can contribute in the future.

Welcome!

Nice to have you here fishtaco. It will be nice to have a little southern flair added to the boards. Temps in the lower 30's? Poor thing! (Our high today was 8, -15 for the low.) I love surface action, but have never fly fished for bass, something that's on my "gotta do" list. I hope you enjoy yourself here.

Rhododendron !!

Gotta love it, it's WV's state flower. The western guys on here don't know what they're missing - especially trying to bushwhack through the stuff.

I worked with a few Louisiana transplants and they all enjoyed vacationing in the Smokies. If you ever get the opportunity, I highly recommend that trip.

Smokies

Chris, I have been to the Smokies, it's an amazing place. I grew up in the Atlanta area so we were never that far from them. However I have yet to fish in the Park itself. I did an overnight on Big Snowbird (not far from the Park) for brookies a few years back and that was an awesome experience. The cool thing about Big Snowbird is you actually have casting room while brookie fishing, something rare in southern Appalachia. Let me know if you need help catching a brookie in Georgia, I know a couple of really great streams.

Ben

thanks

Thanks for the offer on the Georgia streams, I've yet to add that state to my list. Big Snowbird is where I caught my NC brookie - small world.
