Hey everybody!  And Merry Christmas!  This is a wonderful Christmas present - finding this site.  I've been on the trail of catching native trout and char for several years and hoping to meet up with others who shared the same passion.  Looks like I must've been a good boy this year for Santa to nudge me in the direction of this most excellent website!  I'm originally from Montana and call the Bitterroot River my home water, native range of westslope cutts, bull trout, oh, and whitefish.  Grayling also in nearby Big Hole River and mountain lakes.  Read M.R. Montgomery's "Many Rivers to Cross" about 15 years ago and told myself, "I want to do that!"  Now live near Indianapolis but try to get out to MT and the Rocky Mountains at least once a year to visit family and work on "my list".  Caught my first Golden trout on 4th of July, 2005 in a snowstorm from a high mountain lake in the Beartooths.  Does that count?!  Lived in Japan for 10 years and enjoyed catching the native trout (yamame) and char (iwana) in small mountain streams there.  Beautiful fish!  Looking forward to hearing your stories and sharing more with you in the future.

Welcome to the site Tom

Glad to have you. And thanks for posting a trip report. Things have been a little slow around here the last month or two. I'm sure it will pick up again next spring. I look forward to more posts from you. Do you have any pics from Japan?

Anders
