Let me try this again.  My name is Edward "Ned" Morris.  I have been a lunatic about CA coldwater fisheries since I was 5 years old fishing with my Dad in the Eastern Sierras.  Although I almost went to Grad School at Humboldt State to study fisheries, I pursued other interest but still make it a hobby.  I am similar to Scott Lyons in some ways.  Got my first edition of the "Sierra Trout Guide" when I was 11 and read it constantly.  Then soon after I got the first edition of Robert Smith's 'Native trout of North America" and I became a Native Trout nut.  I hold CA Heritage Trout Challenge Certificates #5 & #57 (All 12 Trout if you include Steelhead).  I wnet to University of Oregon in the mid 90's and fished the McKenzie River almost daily.  I caught an 8 lb. Bull Trout on a fly on the Upper River (very rare in the Willamette Basin) and became one of it's leading advocates.  I was fortunate to catch a Grayling out of Lobdell Lake when I was 14 right before they went extinct due to the drought. I have caught Coho Salmon in a creek south of the Golden Gate, True (Adult) Summer Steelhead in the Eel River (my profile pic), Whitefish, Lake Trout, Brook Trout, Brown Trout, and Colorado River Cutthroat all in CA.  My latest challenge is to catch (have just a good a chance winning the lottery I think) a Chum Salmon on the South Fork of the Trinity river this November.  I have read there is a tiny population left and this section of river is open to catch & release fishing.  That would round out every Salmonid ever found in CA.  But wait, I am working with USGS and USFWS on a project to possibly restore Bull Trout to the McCloud River.  Decades away and many hurdles to cross, but maybe just maybe a token population from OR can be transplanted and persist one day.  I think this forum could be a springboard to spark interest.  There might be a Bull Trout Workshop headed by USGS and USFWS in Klamath Falls next year.  Would be great to get some interest here.  Great Forum!

Welcome Ned

What you've managed to catch in California is quite an accomplishment!  Good luck with the chum, hopefully you'll keep all of us here posted.

Thank You Dave B.!

Excellent you guys put this together.  I thought I was one of few Native Trout nuts in the world but I am glad to see there are more and some that are far more accomplished (such as you, Gary, etc...) than me! I have a ways to go in the Cutthroat ranks and Mexican/Gila/Apache but have done quite well in the Rainbow/Golden/Redband subs.  Anyways thanks for letting me joine this elite group of Native Trout enthusiasts.  What was the chance two guys like us would live in the same city  Are you a member of TU Northbay or GG Fly Casters?  Can't say we've met before.  Be fun to meet up one day and talk and share some stories over dinner and a drink.  Thanks again for the welcome.
